Dr. Deborah Brosnan

I’ve lived my life where the ocean meets the edge of the possible.
I’m Dr. Deborah Brosnan — a marine scientist, advisor, and someone who understands resilience not just as a theory, but as a lived experience.
I was born on the windswept Atlantic coast of Ireland, where the ocean shaped every horizon and instinct. That early connection to nature never left me. It drew me into a life of science, and into the heart of some of the most powerful forces on Earth.
I’ve been on an island as a volcano erupted on me as I dived on the reef. I’ve walked away from a jetliner crash that should have ended my story. These moments weren’t just survival — they were clarifying. Nature, in all her extremes, taught me how to lead, how to listen, and how to act when everything is at stake.
Today, I bring that same clarity to the world’s most urgent challenges.
I founded Deborah Brosnan & Associates to bridge the gap between science and decision-making — to make sure leaders and decision-makers have the evidence, strategy, and perspective they need to act boldly in the face of climate risk and ecological change.
I created OceanShot with John Paul DeJoria to restore coral reefs at scale —as a blueprint for the future. We’re rebuilding these ecosystems that protect coastlines, create habitat, provide return on investment, and show the world what’s possible when innovation, science, and nature align.
Today, I advise presidents and philanthropists, investors, business leaders and coastal nations. I speak at the UN, at Davos, SXSW, Economist Summits, and on global stages. I’m a frequent subject matter expert on major media like BBC, CNN, Fox to talk about the issues that matter to us and our world. — but I stay grounded in the field, with the science, the ecosystems, that we depend on to thrive . I'm proud to be a fellow of the Explorers Club, and to have been inducted into Ireland50 for my contributions to higher education, and awarded lifetime life sciences Ireland- America achievement award, and a hero's award for saving lives in a plane crash. I'm a member of PADI AWARE board of directors and other boards.
What drives me is simple: we can build a future that works — for the planet, for people, and for the generations that follow. To do so we need all people and all sectors. Nature is our ally, our original technology and part of our value chain.
My strength is turning complexity into clarity, challenges to solutions, and connect divergent interests to work together. My purpose is building a future that’s resilient, intelligent, and deeply connected to the natural world. This isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am.
If you’re ready to pursue a vision, create impact, sustain what matters, and design with nature — I’m here to help you do it.
