The Future of the Courts: Science in the Courtroom. Brief excerpts from Dr Brosnan's introduction to her plenary presentation and workshop for the 54th annual justices conference at the beginning of October 2012 in Ocean Shores Wa. Deborah took the justices on a virtual journey giving them the experience of being a scientist. From DNA and genomics, to endangered species questions, and delving into complex planetary science, she helped them explore how emerging science and technology will affect the courtrooms and their roles as judges. She contrasted science's quest for truth with that of the courtroom's. Science in the courtroom is a fascinating inter-disciplinary challenge, and one which must be addressed in order that "the pursuit of knowledge is effectively united with the use of knowledge to help create a more just and humane society that benefits us all".
