To serve as a voice for science in society
The Brosnan Center is an affiliation of multi-disciplinary scientists and graduate students who work to make science matter in people's lives. Our mission is two fold:
1. To convene innovative minds to explore and find solutions to global challenges
Science is a uniquely human endeavor that has extraordinary potential to contribute to society. Our goal is to contribute to that potential. By strategic convening, engaging scientists with decision-makers we tackle current and emerging challenges.
We integrate across the sciences. Ecologists, neurobiologists, economists, geneticists, engineers, architects, physicists and many others are asking similar questions in order to understand the world, our place in the universe, and how to sustain our planet. However, many are unaware of this synchronicity, and the alternative approaches, knowledge, and possibilities it offers. The first mission of the Center is to integrate these disciplines around key questions.
2. To test and implement these innovative ideas at the local level to rebuild stable environments; we encourage science as a vehicle to engage people with their environment and the future.
We believe innovation should serve the needs of humanity. The second mission of the Brosnan Center focuses on community implementation and engaging people around science to work collectively on solutions that make a difference.
To implement our vision, members of the Brosnan Center conduct scientific research and engage in conservation initiatives. We then put that research to work by helping to craft law and policy frameworks based on science. By doing so, we advocate for effective, science-based solutions to today's pressing environmental problems.
Our goal is to reconnect people with the value, mystery, wonder and unique ability of science to make the world a better place.
